Food Trucks

Food trucks abound on the island.  It's a cheap and easy way to eat.  They don't close down when the other restaurants have to go to take-out-only. Here are three of our favorites.

This is "Stoked" a double decker British red bus.  It parks on Te Amo beach (translated means "I love you") across the street from the airport.  They have great fish sandwiches and all sorts of different flavored sauces and toppings. Your order down below and can sit up stairs where the wind blows and eat.  You get a great view of the playa harbor and a long sandy beach.

King Kong has the best burgers in town. Osco, the owner and cook, fries up some tasty burgers and truffle fries. He said he usually does 60 burgers a day but with the pandemic and no tourists from the US, he only does 20 burgers a day.  His place is well known and he parks on Bachelor Beach.

This is the entrance down to Bachelor Beach a well known dive and swim beach.  Actually, there isn't much beach.  Its more like a spit of white sand. As is the Bonaire style, the steps down to the beach are steep and you get to a rock landing at the bottom that you have to jump from to reach the sand beach.

This is 5 minute drive from our house.  We go here to swim. Once you are in the water you can swim along the shore and see all the big houses built right on the beach. The waves are very mild here so it's easy to swim as well as get in and out of the water.  It's also a perfect place to watch sunsets.  On any given night there are 15-20 cars parked to watch the sunset from this spot.

Dash Kitchen is permanently parked in an empty lot on the main street in the northern part of Kralendijk. It's about a 15 minute drive from our house.  They are only open on weekends.  They serve savory biscuit sandwiches that are to-die-for.  The sandwiches are made with eggs, bacon, chicken, sausage, ham and are soooo good.  They also make cinnamon rolls and other sweets.  This may become our Sunday brunch place.

The Corey-Luce eatery isn't too bad either. Since the island is shut down we eat most meals at home.  This is chicken Italiano with greens beans and salad. Rick made a signature dish the other night of shrimp, vegetables and pasta in a white wine sauce.

Some nights it's beers with bread to dip in balsamic and oil with garlic and spices.

We are not going hungry here.

I was driving home from Bon Tera ( a local vegetable farm) and in front of the airport this foam stuff was floating all over. It looked like...
