Windward Side

The wind blows all the time on Bonaire. Usually between 17 and 20 mph.  It keeps the bugs away and cools things. On the windward side of the island it really blows. Lots of wave action.

Notice the new hairdo.  It's the wash and wave style.  No more hair dryers or curling irons for me.

Bonaire has three light houses.  This is the first one built on Bonaire. Willemstoren Lighthouse  was constructed in 1837.  It was totally renovated in 2012 and is in good working order.  The building, we think, was the lighthouse keeper's place until the lighthouse was automated.

This lighthouse is on the southern end of the island on the windward side and about 10 minutes from our house in Belnem.

The shore is rocky.  It is made up of coral pieces.  No sand.  The waves are big and loud.  It really is fun to sit and watch the waves.

Bonaire went to a Level 5 because of an outbreak of Covid cases. They have 56 active cases, one in the hospital and 87 in quarantine. The numbers are on the rise. Level 5 means all the restaurants close and only do take-out, no indoor meetings, only essential businesses can open, and they restrict travel on boats.  So we went sightseeing in the windward side of the island.  There wasn't anyone around.  The beaches were empty. Perfect for social distancing.
