A palm in our back yard is a nuisance, so we are taking it down, or rather the gardener is taking it down. The bamboo patio roof was built around the tree. We had to take it off so that it would not be broken when the 40 pound pieces of trunk are cut. Palm bark is what orchids grow on/in. We will leave part of the trunk in place so we can create an orchid garden.
Marco, the gardener, starts by taking all the palm fronds off the tree. Then he cuts chunks off the trunk, splits them and his assistant, Kenneth, carries off the pieces. It took most of the day to get the tree cut down.
Now we have a stump. We have to rebuild the back decking and bamboo roof.
Now we will be able to keep the back deck clean and won't have to trim a tree that goes through the roof.
We must have started something in the neighborhood because the neighbors are trimming all their palms that haven't been trimmed in years. Maybe we are raising the bar in the neighborhood.
What a lot of work! And raising the standards in the hood? Gee, when we move in it is usually, "Well, there goes the neighborhood!"
